Three-Blade Fleam, Wooden Casing

Description: Fleams were the more common and early method of veterinary bloodletting consisting of one or more blades made of pewter or steel found in a brass or wooden case. These knives contained a sharp edge which would be placed on the skin while a hard blow would be applied to the opposite side, slicing through the skin to release blood.
