About the Collector

Alexander (Alex) Rosenberg is a pre-medical graduate of Colgate University, where he studied neuroscience and music. He currently lives in Boston, MA, and works as an emergency room technician at Beth Israel Lahey Health during his two gap years before matriculating to medical school.

At 17, Alexander developed a fascination with the history of medicine—specifically, the evolution of medical and surgical procedures through tangible artifacts. Driven by this interest, he began collecting medical instruments wherever he could find them, from small antique shops to large flea markets across the United States and Central America.

As his collection grew, it drew the attention of local physicians—some of whom had personal collections and offered to expand the Tools of Yesterday display through generous donations. During his sophomore year of college, Alexander organized his growing archive into a traveling medical history museum, researching, cataloging, and writing about each item. His goal was to spark curiosity about the history of medicine and inspire future healthcare professionals.

The collection is currently on loan to a medical manufacturing company in Allendale, NJ, which welcomes visitors.
