Humby Skin-Grafting Knife

Description: Skin grafting is a relatively modern technique in plastic surgery aside from a few examples such as early as 600 B.C. in ancient India. The earliest recording of skin grafting around this time involved the use of free gluteal skin and fat grafts after being beaten with wooden slippers in addition to the use of a paste for adhesion. After this time, however, there was a lull in the practice of skin grafting until 1804 when trials of skin grafts were resumed by Dr. G. Baronio on sheep. Following this successful experimentation of skin transplantation, surgeons around the world began constructing devices to further develop this newly revived field of surgery resulting in the continuation of its practice in modern medicine.
